10 Website Mistakes That Could Be Costing You Customers
A website doesn't need to be broken to lose customers. These ten common mistakes quietly push visitors away, and each one is straightforward to fix.
A website does not need to be broken to lose customers. More often than not, it is a handful of small, easily overlooked mistakes that quietly chip away at trust and send visitors elsewhere before they ever make an enquiry.
We recently looked at why treating a website as a static brochure holds a business back in Your Website Is More Than an Online Brochure. Many of the mistakes below are simply symptoms of that same brochure mindset.
1. Slow Load Times
Visitors form an opinion within seconds. If a page takes too long to load, most people simply leave before they ever see what the business offers.
2. No Clear Call to Action
If it is not obvious what a visitor should do next, whether that is calling, booking, or enquiring, most will not take the initiative to work it out for themselves.
3. A Poor Mobile Experience
With most browsing now happening on phones, a site that is awkward to use on a smaller screen turns visitors away almost immediately.
4. Outdated Content
Old pricing, discontinued services, or a copyright date stuck several years in the past all signal neglect, even when the business itself is thriving.
5. Confusing Navigation
If visitors cannot find what they are looking for within a couple of clicks, they tend to assume the business is difficult to deal with in general.

6. Weak or Missing Testimonials
Without genuine proof that others have had a good experience, new visitors are left to take a business at its word, which is a harder sell than it needs to be.
7. A Cluttered Design
Too many competing messages, banners, and pop-ups make it hard for a visitor to focus on the one thing that matters: understanding what is on offer.
8. No Clear Point of Difference
If a website reads exactly like every competitor's, visitors have little reason to choose one business over another.
9. Broken Links and Forms
A contact form that does not submit properly, or a link that leads nowhere, can undo months of hard-earned marketing in a single click.
10. Ignoring the Numbers
Without tracking how visitors actually use a site, it is difficult to know which of these mistakes might be present, let alone put them right.
Most of these issues are straightforward to correct once they have been identified, and fixing even a few can make a noticeable difference to how many visitors turn into genuine enquiries.
