AI Mode arrives in the UK and Australian businesses should take note
Google brought AI Mode to the United Kingdom on 28 July, letting people opt in through Search Labs and get a new AI tab inside Search and the Google app. It followed the wider United States launch in May and marked the first big English-language market outside the US to receive the feature.
For Australian owners the UK is the closest mirror we have. We share a language, similar buying habits and many of the same global brands, so the way UK searches shift gives a fair sense of what to expect locally. When AI Mode answers a query in full, people click less and read more of Google's summary, which changes how discovery works for smaller businesses.
The sensible response is not to panic but to prepare. Make sure the questions your customers actually ask are answered plainly on your site, keep your Google Business Profile accurate, and start paying attention to whether your brand shows up inside AI answers, not just in the blue links below them.
