Nasinu Town Council Implements Strategic Measures to Alleviate Financial Strain

The Nasinu Town Council Management, under the leadership of Acting Chief Executive Imraan Khan, has embarked on a series of proactive steps to tackle the financial challenges facing the municipality. With a focus on enhancing operational efficiency and revenue collection, the council aims to alleviate the burden of outstanding rates, amounting to a staggering $14 million.

Central to their strategy is the launch of a comprehensive rate profiling exercise, aimed at optimizing the council’s database and streamlining revenue collection efforts. Through this initiative, dedicated volunteers are conducting door-to-door visits to update records for all ratepayers. Simultaneously, they are distributing means test forms to assess the financial capabilities of ratepayers, ensuring a fair and equitable approach to debt management.

Furthermore, the council is intensifying efforts to boost revenue collection by identifying and addressing discrepancies in property ownership. Of the 11,377 ratepayers identified, special attention is being given to cases where properties have not been transferred to the next of kin following the death of the original owner. Collaborating with public trustees, the council is facilitating the formal transfer process and initiating legal action to secure outstanding payments. By holding properties accountable for owed rates, the council aims to safeguard its financial interests and ensure equitable contributions from all stakeholders.

Acting Chief Executive Imraan Khan emphasizes that these proactive measures are essential for improving operational efficiency and financial stability within the council. By addressing outstanding rates and enhancing revenue collection mechanisms, the Nasinu Town Council endeavors to fulfill its mandate of providing essential services and infrastructure to the community.

The implementation of these strategic measures reflects the council’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and effective governance, ultimately fostering a more sustainable and prosperous future for Nasinu and its residents.
